Did anyone do something kind for you today?
Today I was fortunate enough to have my husband working from home. It's always nice having his company on a weekday! He was watching my children inside while I remained outside after a nice family walk. I decided to finally tackle shoveling out the mailbox once and for all - a whole winter's worth of snow and ice! You see my husband is from Florida originally so it never occurred to him to snow blow anything besides the driveway and walkway to the front door. I have reminded him several times so the mailman can access our box easily (and so I can retrieve the mail without stepping over the snowbank!) and he either forgets, or is just plain worn out since he snow blows 10 driveways in addition to ours. Anyway, I got the ice chipper and the big aluminum shovel and was making some real progress when our friendly neighbor walked by during the beginning of his daily journey with his two dogs. He suggested I leave my shovel there for him so he could finish digging out my mailbox on his way home. What a nice man! Like DebB who commented on my original post, this is the only way many people know how to live. Most are kind by nature and don't need someone to create a Kindness Campaign to remind them. :) But this is why this forum was created - so we can read more about these people and the kind deeds that occur every day in our community. So thank you Kind Neighbor! I actually felt very gratified that I was able to get through the entire snowbank and 6" of ice on the pavement on my own, even before he walked by on his way home.

Hello! My goal is to impact the Lakes Region by performing random acts of kindness. I want to inspire people to be the best they can be. My children and I are going to go around town doing nice things for others as opportunities present themselves. My only hope is that those people pay it forward and do something nice for someone else. These acts don't have to be big - there are so many good people who do kind things all the time, but here are some suggestions just to help reiterate my goal: let the car waiting to turn into traffic go in front of you; bring up your neighbor's trash bins after they've been emptied; shovel someone's driveway for them; buy coffee for the person behind you in the Dunkin Donut's drive-through; let the person who only has a couple items behind you at the store check-out go in front of you; hold the door open for someone; bring a meal to the family who just had a baby; when leaving Funspot with leftover tickets or tokens, hand them to people who are just walking in; pull over and hand an umbrella you have in your car to the person out walking in the rain; you get the idea! It is a win-win situation because you will feel good about yourself knowing you made someone smile. Dreaming large, I see this becoming contagious and before we know it, the Lakes Region of New Hampshire is going to be filled with happy, selfless, loving, giving people touching each other's hearts and making a difference in the world, just starting here in our little community.
Please leave comments about what someone did for you today! Visit often: you might need a pick-me-up after a bad day and reading about what others in our community are doing for one another could turn your frown upside down! So, who's with me?! |
